What is Gluten?

Gluten is a family of proteins found in wheat, barley, rye and spelt.

Gluten is made up of proteins that are found in Wheat, Barley, Rye and Spelt. Gluten can cause some of the following symptoms:

  1. Bloating- Swollen belly or full of gas after you've eaten. This is one of the most common symptom of Gluten Intolerance.

  2. Diarrhea, Constipation and Smelly feces- Having diarrhea and constipation is normal. If this happens regularly, this could indicate a more serious problem. Gluten causes digestive discomfort and diarrhea or constipation. People with Celiac disease experience foul and pale feces.

  3. Abdominal Pain- This is the most common symptom of Gluten intolerance.

  4. Headaches- Many people experience headaches or migraines once in a while. But if you have them without no explanation, Gluten could be the culprit.

  5. Feeling tired- Gluten tolerant people commonly to tiredness and fatigue. Gluten intolorence can cause iron deficiency anemia.

  6. Skin Problems- Dermatitis herpetiformas can be caused by someone with Celiac disease. Certain other skin conditions will approve on a Gluten free diet. Such as psoriasis, alopecia areata, or chronic urticaria.

  7. Depression- Someone with digestive issues are prone to depression and anxiety. These are common symptoms of people with Celiac disease.

  8. Unexplained weight loss- Unexplained weight loss is a common side effect of undiagnosed Celiac disease.

  9. Iron Deficiency Anemia- This causes low blood volume, fatigue, shortness of breathe, dizziness, headaches, pale skin and weakness.

  10. Anxiety- This involves feelings of worry, nervousness, unease and agitation. Someone with a Gluten intolerance are prone to anxiety and panic attacks.

  11. Autoimmune Disorders- Celiac disease is a autoimmune disease that causes your immune system to attack your digestive tract after you have eaten Gluten.

  12. Joint and muscle Pain- Gluten can cause inflammation which results in pain in the muscles and joints

  13. Leg or Arm Numbness- Gluten intolerance can cause Nephropathy which involves numbness or tingling in arms and legs.

  14. Brain Fog- A foggy mind consists of being forgetful, having trouble thinking, feeling cloudy and mental fatigue.

In any case if you have any of these symptoms, please see your healthcare provider. A blood test may be needed to determine if you have Celiac disease. I went to a Allergist for other matters, but the results confirmed a allergy to wheat gluten.
